Some thoughts on the blog

A lot are about to change in Double Crochets' (aka Marietta and Panagiota) lives. We have some extra huge news to share (not just yet), and until then it might would be a good idea to share some of my thoughts on the Double Crochets' blog. What should it happen to it?

Apparently it will change, and probably you'll be seeing more of my stuff , and by that I mean ,even more of my lifestyle, personal interests, hobbies, photography, etc. I will always love to crochet, and there is no intent on stopping doing that although I find myself nowadays sewing and drawing more, and longing to share more of my personal stuff and photography work. One thought was to start a new blog under my name, but it turned out I couldn't keep up with both blogs. So it seems only fair to me that I should share them here! I felt a little guilty posting non-crochet content on Double Crochets, but then it would end up to be abandoned for a long time, so in one hand I have this blog and on the other my longing to blog....so why not blogging after all?
It won't be just crocheting , and maybe that's just fine!

It doesn't mean that you won't be hearing from Panagiota! But for now, until everything is settled down, it will be mostly me keeping up with the Double Crochets's blog, etsy shop, facebook, orders etc.

so what's your opinion?
would you mind reading about arts and crafts , other than crochet?

see you around

On air!

the other day we we on air! at Maria Pavlou radio show...

here is a link to the archive of the radio show, but I didn't figure it out how to embed it here ,so go search for the 24/4/2013 broadcast! hehehe it was fun, no matter we missed to say a lot about crocheting -although we indented to- because of anxiety! But it was a new experience for us and we'll definitely do it again...

thank you Loukia and Maria for this!

lately

life is good, and life is crazy.
Meanwhile our brother is the best.... not just because he helped us out, with our weekend market !

 :P

he is really cool, and he neverminds the cuteness!! (here he is with Renata from Renata Malavazou vintage)
And on top of his coolness, he also helped me to photograph our new series of hair combs!!! He is pretty awesome and, no jokes, he knows how to knit.

you'll find these combs and more, soon, on our etsy shop ;)

Cicada and thread

lately I've been crocheting with thread,
this amazing cicada ring is made by Smalltown girl and is one of my favorite, of all the time,
the cute biscuit is part of my friend Veronica gift from her trip to Tbilisi. I liked the colors in the morning light and shot them together....

wish you a happy weekend ^_^

History Review: Cookham Erratics

So this is another post from the past.

It's about visiting a museum and some weird huge rocks of knitted material I found there.
It was last year, that we had a visit to Benaki Museum and you can't imagine the look on my face when I found myself surrounded by some speaking knit work! I gasped in amaze!

Among the ancient sculptures and finds, there were standing knitted rocks, as part of the exhibition of a foreigner artist. I run asking around like crazy, if I could grab some pictures and if any further piece of information for that super cool installation, could be found.

The artist's name is Andy Holden , the work is called "Cookham Erratics" and it was made for the Benaki Museum,  in the video below you could learn some more things on his installation.

In the video, the artist, says that he was reading philosophy while knitting theses sculptures, and he is describing a theory on objects that is pretty interesting. As I read here: "Each different shape is based on stones collected by the artist from Cookham Church yard where Stanley Spencer painted The Resurrection, Cookham"

here's another video

What do you think?! I have seen knitted art pieces or knit work being a part of an artwork/installation but never before in an ancient museum. I believe it's really innovative and original, but also, the more cynical part of myself thinks, that's a sign that needle work is making a strong come back in our lives. In any way, it was nice and peaceful to walk around these rock replicas, hearing them mumbling...

my way to-and from- Chalcis

Chalkida is the town I'll be moving to, after summer.
Here are some photos I shot, a while ago, on a trip by train.
I've been travelling to, and from it, the last two years, a lot.

reflections
 leaving Chalkida
Chalkida is on an island (a big one) but there are 2 bridges connecting it to mainland of Greece

 a view of Chalkida

 more reflections

all above photos are from a single route...
and of course I enjoy crocheting while travelling... (actually that's the reason I choose train!)
Hoping that you didn't got completely bored with this crafts irrelevant post!

photo review: P.T.

Yesterday I came across this grammar rule:  "If + past tense => would/wouldn't + infinitive"  "The combination of the past tense and would, usually suggest that the situation is imaginary or impossible or less definite to happen....."  But definitely that's not the case of the combination of If and our Past Tense bazaar, where everything is full of imagination but most likely real and possible!!!

Double Crochets certainly were there last weekend, and while Panagiota did her best to help, although her days are extremely full, you could meet me and our Double Crochets' goodιes, on both days. We had a great time, and the thing I really enjoyed most, was the company of the other participants!

here are some photos:

Panagiota shot this one for me <3 Do you like our little corner?

rainbow lace cuffs!

Double Crochets ftw
we were a great team, and we laughed a lot

but mostly I was with Dimitra from "Daydream Handmade lingerie" since our stands were side by side

Fabulous Cat Papers

There were also Grandmama's ReLoved, Lazy Di, Bicky Wicky bakes (nom nom bestes little sweets, I would eat anyday) and Swell Dame (of course), that I didn't get a photo of! but I love their work, so you better click on their links!
So I believe that that was it!
It was one of the awesomest bazaars I've ever been to! I liked the mood , the people, the way the bazaar was set up, the light ,the weather, that Tasos showed up, that I hanged out with Panagiota (whom I am not seeing so much anymore!!), but most of all I liked the company of the other fellow participants! they were really funny and interesting and it was awesome to chat with some of them. Nice to meet you guys!

cheers
