Wooden sunnies from Greece!!

Xylo (ξύλο) is wood in Greek, and Xylo eyewear is a new brand from Syros (that's a Greek island). The people behind Xylo, are running a campaign at indiegogo  to gather the money, and reach their goal, in order to make Xylo eyewear their new dream job!

I contributed to the campaign by getting myself a wooden usb flash driver, but you can grab a pair of sunnies (or maybe two) and help them make their dream a reality, here .You should totally love their work! Oh did I mentioned that the campaign ends in just 2 days!?!

Photo Review: KiP in Athens 2012

we love picnics, we do!
For the second year in a row we organised a picnic to celebrate the Knitting/Crocheting in Public Day (KiP Day) in Athens. We did it last year, and we wouldn't miss this year's!

The place was the same, the Park of Freedom (near the Music House in Athens), same time, too, but almost different people! We had some regulars and some guest stars!

Eleni, a member of our crochet team from last years, Artemis, a fellow crocheter and knitter, Dimi, also a member of our crochet club, Fotini, Eleana and Vicky who don't crochet but we love them equally, Panagiotis and Orestis (our brother and his amazing friend who both learned how to knit at last year's Kip) and finally unexpectedly Tasos arrived to surprise me and complete our company at this Kip!

We mostly crocheted, except Panagiotis who started knitting a cowl, Orestis, Fotini and Vicky learned how to make a chain, (basic crochet stitch). Artemis started a crocheted blouse with the bestest sand colored yarn, I was making some bows for our shop, Dimi was crocheting a gift and Panagiota was interrupting her work by blowing bubbles in the wind!

and we had some really good time! Vicky brought me the most amazing gift ever,  some purple alpaca yarn from Switzerland!! I was smitten! look at this amazing shade....
Still in search of a magnificent project for this yarn!

with a small delay, these are finally the photos that document what happened on the 16th of June 2012, to celebrate the international Knitting and Crocheting in Public day, by the Double Crochets!

so bye bye and thanks to everybody that showed up!
big kiss

Photo Review: summer "Past Tense"

Γεια σας from Double Crochets! (which means "hallo" in greek)
how's life over there? Over here, in Greece, things are a little bit messy all over the country, because of the political and economical crisis, plus the elections. Things are too serious and everyone's talking about it. But you might have notice, that when something hard and complicated happens, life keeps going....
Our lives do continue and we try to live every moment with smile and optimism. Things ain't easy at all, but right now, this only seems as a chance to prove that we can do it. Wish for us that we won't get too disappointed in the end ......

...so as life continues

...we had the bazaar, two weeks ago, and we loved it ,once more. We did a lot of preparation with half the anxiety we had last time. Cause you might remember that this was our second time taking place at a bazaar, but surely not the last! Some other bazaars are already planned for this summer! Hooray!

our little corner

Aggeliki!
We want to thank everyone who showed up, and everybody that supported us once again!! We also had a visitor that used our sale password. Thank you Vasiliki!
It lasted two days, Saturday was marvelous, Sunday was ok. The weather was too hot, and I guess most of the people, chose to spend their weekend at a beach, rather than shopping! So here's a thought: why don't we move the bazaar by the beach!? (extra info coming on).
The best part of this bazaar were, definitely, its people, we enjoyed the company of the girls who participated at Past Tense, the ones who showed up to say "hi" and of course "Les Broderies Anglaises". Below there are photos from all the girls that participated and you can find a link to them on the photo caption.

So that's for now, I'm going back on sketching and drawing for my examinations at school. But you should stay tuned, for a new post, because last Saturday we had the Kip meeting!! Knitting/Crocheting in Public is fun....so are the photos we shot! Another topic that is coming on, here at Double Crochets' blog is the "Rockin in Style festival" and the retro bazaar we organize over there!

Summer love

Hello!!

How are you? (have you seen the new blogger's dashboard?) and how was your summer? Mine was terrific! Some weeks ago I visited my sweet cousins at Aigina island! We did some catch up, we cooked together, laughed, swim, rest by the sea, had a blast!!! ♥ We did enjoy some mornings with a cup of coffee and chocolate croissant. nom nom! Aaaand we did some knitting by the sea! As you already know, Marietta and I, like to crochet or knit anywhere (literally at any place!) One place I haven't tried before, and was found out to be pretty awesome, was the beach!!

My younger cousin wanted to learn how to knit, and I was more than happy to show her, while it happened that among the sunscreen and the underwater masks, we've packed needles and yarn. The scenery was ideal and so.... we started knitting lessons at the beach! It was a little crazy but most of all relaxing!

what's your top 5 strangest places you've ever tried knitting or crocheting?

The perfect photos of me and my younger cousin Marietta (yes they have the same name with my sister Marietta) were shot by my older cousin Marina, a very talented architect and bon viver! Thanks for everything girls! Now that I am back in Athens I'm trying to enjoy myself until I get back to the crazy life of autumn. Double Crochets will soon start meeting again in Athens and new projects are about to begin!! Wherever you are, find some time, grab your needles or hooks, choose a nice pattern and let's spread the thread! September is here, autumn is at the door, we'll soon be wearing socks, warm pullovers and drinking hot tea while we knit! But summer isn't totally over yet!! let's keep some summer in our hearts!

big hug
