Two weeks ago, a friend of Tasos, went by his van to my parents house in Athens and brought us the mattress for our couch (yes, we now have a couch, yippee!!), my mom sneaked in the van a special, little light blue bag!

oh-my, oh-my! it was a gift from Panagiota, from the Netherlands, hooray!! Check those washi tapes! I've always wanted some! and those crochet hooks and those special tape stickers! lalala!

still don't know what I will do with the locker hook! but it's a perfect addition to my collection ^_^

thank you little sister! ! ! !

in christmas mood

December is finally here!!
this means holiday mood, mittens and snow!Christmas tree with with extra festive accessories and tree ornaments! Sweet preparations in front of the open fire! Handmade presents and Christmas bazaars!

Double Crochets couldn't wait to feel this mood!! :) we are already creating unigue pieces for the next Past Tense bazaar and cannot wait for all of you to see them!
Besides, crochet and knitting couldn't fit more in this festive mood! What would be better than sweater weather with tea, cinnamon cookies and yarn crafts?

Well the perfect music has to be there also.

What I love listening to while crocheting during Christmas is "A Charlie Brown Christmas", an album by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, released in 1965. It is among the most popular Christmas music albums of all time and one of my favourites!

If you are not the biggest fan of jazz or Snoopy (if this can be possible..), here is another really nice Christmas playlist:

Even the most demanding could not resist to get in the mood.
So let's get started! Pick your favourite yarn, your hooks and needles and make some Christmas presents!
What music do you usually listen to while creating for your loved ones? And what would be your playlist for Christmas crocheting?

Can't wait to hear from you.
Big hug,
panagiota

Michaila Kapaskeli for DoubleCrochets

Today we are super happy to introduce to you Michaila Kapaskeli, a graphic designer, a flautist, and the artist that draw some Double Crochets illustrations for us!!!

We thank her for this aha-mazing illustration, at last we have our own unique illustration of her, we are really proud! I've always admired her style and the aesthetic of her work. It seems like this girl has something of Northen Europe, if she was a song she would be definitely written by a band of Nordic countries or at least by Pj Harvey! The ambient of her work reminds me the Northen lights and the melancholy of the winter. She expresses herself through the small details, and always leaves you with the taste of hope, like autumn afternoons' sun.

There are more!, we also had a choise of outfits!

You can check more of her work here, and of course you can contact her, if you want to commission an illustration at: michailakapaskeli (@) hotmail (dot) com!

Photo Review: KiP in Athens 2012

we love picnics, we do!
For the second year in a row we organised a picnic to celebrate the Knitting/Crocheting in Public Day (KiP Day) in Athens. We did it last year, and we wouldn't miss this year's!

The place was the same, the Park of Freedom (near the Music House in Athens), same time, too, but almost different people! We had some regulars and some guest stars!

Eleni, a member of our crochet team from last years, Artemis, a fellow crocheter and knitter, Dimi, also a member of our crochet club, Fotini, Eleana and Vicky who don't crochet but we love them equally, Panagiotis and Orestis (our brother and his amazing friend who both learned how to knit at last year's Kip) and finally unexpectedly Tasos arrived to surprise me and complete our company at this Kip!

We mostly crocheted, except Panagiotis who started knitting a cowl, Orestis, Fotini and Vicky learned how to make a chain, (basic crochet stitch). Artemis started a crocheted blouse with the bestest sand colored yarn, I was making some bows for our shop, Dimi was crocheting a gift and Panagiota was interrupting her work by blowing bubbles in the wind!

and we had some really good time! Vicky brought me the most amazing gift ever,  some purple alpaca yarn from Switzerland!! I was smitten! look at this amazing shade....
Still in search of a magnificent project for this yarn!

with a small delay, these are finally the photos that document what happened on the 16th of June 2012, to celebrate the international Knitting and Crocheting in Public day, by the Double Crochets!

so bye bye and thanks to everybody that showed up!
big kiss

A Crochet Gift

Today we are sharing the story of a personal request gift! Dimitris, a friend and colleague of mine at school didn't have the chance to be at our bazaar (at Past Tense), so he made a custom order, afterwards. He wanted a special gift for his girlfriend! And it was his request the gift to be a pair of red crocheted heart earrings. Double Crochets to the rescue!
I made them with extra care and of course love, and here they are, a lovely pair for Eirini!

Marietta was extra inventive with a special love packaging. We added small little paper hearts and letters spelling love! You could call it "late Valentine's", or "really early one"! What do you think? I always love a romantic gift idea, how are you when it comes to "the matters of the heart" crafts?

Wish you guys all the love in the world!
hug,
Panagiota

Double Crochets @ Past Tense

Did you miss us? We sure did! Time does fly, that's something we learned over the past weeks. One moment we were working like crazy getting ready for "Past Tense" , the vintage and crafts bazaar, next moment here we are, three weeks later, still recovering from it! Easter came, Marietta has some wonderful news (tba!), two close friends got married and ..omg its almost May!
Today we want to share with you our experience from our first participation ever on a bazaar. But before that, we want to thank each and everyone who came by the bazaar to support us!! We were amazed by the wonderful turnout and we just want you to know that, we appreciate you! Also a big "thanks!" to our friends, they are super precious, and last but not least, we want to thank Les Broderies Anglaises for having us at this wonderful bazaar!

The experience was amazing and we learnt a lot of stuff almost by the moment we set our feet at the bazaar (a bit late though)! The night before, we were up late preparing the last details, and we didn't sleep well because of the anxiety! We have surely underestimate how much there was to do! Eirini (the girl, we had our shops back to back with) told us, that we were pretty well prepared for our first time, though.
We were super happy and we were crocheting at the time we were waiting for someone to show up. We met a lot of new people and a lot of our friends came by and say hi . We enjoyed a lot this contact with "customers" and we also enjoyed being among the nicest crafters that we've met before. We are super proud of ourselves and our little shoppe! And a strange fact: the things we didn't expect to sell, were selling like freshly baked buns and the ones we thought that would be the best sellers, didn't sell much!

So that was it! we had a hell of a time, and we can't wait for our next adventure! See you next time!!
Double Crochets ♥
